3 Tips to Make the BEST Pina Colada EVER!
Do you like Pina Coladas???? And getting songs stuck in your head???
It’s July. Officially beach weather. And nothing completes a beach day more than a pina colada in hand! Yes, of course you can buy the pre-made mixes and blend them at home but the fresh made stuff is SOOOO much better and honestly, not that hard!
I use this recipe from the Food Network along with just a couple of tips I’ve learned along the way to make it even better!
BEST Pina Colada EVER
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cup ice
- 1/2 cup diced pineapple frozen
- 2 ounces pineapple juice
- 2 ounces cream of coconut
- 1 1/2 ounces white rum
- 1 ounce dark rum
- Pineapple slices for garnish
Instructions
-
Stick everything in a blender and puree until ready (Yeah, it's that easy!). You ain't no dummy... you know how to blend a cocktail! 😉
Now, for the TIPS!… this is the important part.
TIP #1 – Choose a good quality rum.
I mean this! Good quality rum can MAKE your pina colada! And bad rum can … well, not RUIN it, but once you taste the difference, you won’t go back! My two favorite white rums are:
Matusalem ( $16.99)
I love that this is an affordable option! And it has hints of vanilla which blend really well into the pina colada.
Cane ($25)
A little bit sugary, but delicious with slight notes of chocolate at the end. Blends perfectly with pineapple juice.
For dark rum, my favorite is:
El Dorado Original Dark Superior Rum ($14)
Affordable, rich with flavor and perfect for mixing into Tiki drinks!
Tip #2 – Cream of Coconut…. NOT coconut milk!
I know… coconut milk is very trendy right now. It’s almost become a staple in every non-dairy home. And while if you’re blending your pina colada, it won’t RUIN your drink… the difference between coconut milk and cream of coconut is staggering. And by having cream of coconut, you can also choose to shake your cocktail rather than blend it if you wish for a slightly boozier flavor (since the blended ice will mute the flavors).
Tip #3 – Add just a touch of macadamia nut liqueur for an extra oomph!
Not too expensive, but adding this macadamia nut liqueur will put your pina colada over the edge into that next level where friends will be asking what your secret ingredient is! Try Trader Vic’s brand… once again, not too expensive and a good liqueur you’ll be able to use in other mixers!
